SNOWING DAILY-SOON MAPLE SYRUP SEASON WILL START.

PASSING THE WINTER DAYS:

Last week I was near sick of hearing Genesee County, Genesee County and Genesee County on the weather news.   And again, 2-4" for Genesee County.  We probably have a foot to a foot and a half on the lawn now.  A person could suit up, and walk outside and hop on a snowmobile and take off.  I have cancelled many appointments and rescheduled.  Seems like our old winters; not like the current trend of big dumps on different cities.

I want to mention a cleaning product that I can't believe I  found on the grocery shelves.  Why, because I had never heard of it.  Here's the story:  About five years ago, Betsy and I was shopping for a new set of dishes for daily use.  (Get rid of that Princess House-not micro, or oven safe)  We tried several kinds and ended up with Noritake, Color wave in Black & Brown.  They are microwave, oven & dishwasher safe.   A little heavier than I would have liked.  They were about 39.95 per set; not cheap.  We watched sales and used coupons till we had the serving pieces.

Now some of the pieces show a gray-scratch like center.   Betsy mentioned it first.  So I dug out the warranty info; I was going to register my concern.
I had a surprise!  On their info, it mentioned this problem and said we should buy "Bar Keepers Friend or Zud" cleaners.  It must be a gentle cleaner.  Just for the heck  of it, I looked for it in the grocery store and found it.  Unreal!
Well, we have tried it and it does clean the dishes up-somewhat.  We have and use daily the Cutco dinner knives; I wonder if they have caused some of the marks.  We love those knives, no way are we changing them.  So we have marks!  Too  bad.   Have you ever heard of or used this product?  The spoon marks on the crock pot went away.
I have looked thru the Corning dish sets but nothing caught my eye.  I guess nothing else will compare.

We are still dealing with cold and snow;  daily.  Sometimes it's pretty and other times it's getting old hat!  Our granddaughter in Boston sent pictures, her SUV was buried.  She wasn't a happy camper as she had to work from home on her computer with all the closed roads.  A day off and still have to work.

Narrow streets of Boston
SOME SNOW FOR EVERYBODY!

KEEP SHOVELING!

I can remember one storm in particular when I was still working and the Commissioner called me and said she would send the Sheriff to pick me up so the accounting unit could get the checks out for the clients.  At that time, I had a Volkswagen Bug and when I came home from work the previous day; I turned around in the garage and was headed out!!!  However, due to the driving ban, I did accept the Sheriff's ride.   I suppose I made the neighbors day with the Sheriff picking me up.   Ha!

We have attended one graduation party already for this year.  Our son-in-laws' niece in Lockport is graduating early so she can attend a Music & Drama college in New York City that is on tri semesters.   She loves New York so the party theme was all New York decos with the food from the cup cakes to the  sidewalk hot dogs.   We didn't stay late due to the weather predictions but I see by the photos that they had a grand time.

BEAUTIFUL VOICE!
BEAUTIFUL GIRL!

We have heard a lot about the movie American Sniper.  I thought it would be nice for Bob to see, instead of all the girl flicks that I drag him to see.  I suggested going  on Sunday afternoon for the matinee.  (Cheap tickets)  Well, I guess I have finally reached the age of maturity or I'm all grown up now as I didn't turn my head or think about leaving due to fear.  I was so engrossed with the story.  People have stated that we shouldn't point out one sniper for the credit...true...but he seemed to excel.  My thoughts are they were trying to stress so many emotions; the trauma of active warfare and post trauma conditions of returning soldiers.  His death proves that.

A little of this and a little of that:
I was trying to quilt my table runner with my sewing machine and it started making a noise.  Then the thread broke!  Clunk!  Some how the thread went up into the mechanism that lifts the needle and wound up in there.  I couldn't get at it so I called "Mr. Fix It".  He tore it all apart and it's good as gold, now.  But I was fuming!  Nothing goes right!  Lost my perseverance!  So  now I'm quilting by hand.  I found a pretty gold thread that I'm using and it matches the fabric nicely.

Then  another day with a few free moments, I tried using my Stamping Up stamps.  I had made one card with a fall design at a camping rally last year and the instructor told me I could change it out to a winter scene.  Well, I just have to try that.  IT DIDN'T GO SMOOTHLY EITHER!  The rubber stamps kept falling off the blocks.  What kinda black cloud is hanging over me?

I PUT GLITTER ON THE SNOW AREAS.
I NEED A BETTER PICTURE.

Wanting to try a few more time taking ideas before running out of winter; I tried baking with yeast.  Ha! The ground hog didn't see his shadow.   Someone posted 46 days until spring yesterday.

LOOK HOW NICE THE YEAST WORKED BEFORE THEY FELL!
ANOTHER DISAPPOINTMENT.

I have just finished reading the book AMERICAN SNIPER.  After seeing the movie I had to know the rest of the story.   After I was half way threw the book I started to think of all the repetition but  he had four different deployments so there would be lots of battle  stories.
There was a location description of all the tribes over there that I should probably read again so I can follow the news better.  Guys-if interested in the guns used, there was a lot of descriptions about them.   There was lots of disagreement with the politics of the game.  The SEALS  were so very brave.  It gives a person a bigger  perspective of what they endure for our freedom.

We were going to Galleria Mall to the Apple Store on Friday but when we got up it was so nasty with wind and blowing snow that we cancelled again.  Also on Friday,  Debbie sent a text inviting us to join the group on Saturday going to Galleria Mall to BUILD A BEAR.   Oh!  Our son in law's sister's daughter (Isabella) has built a charity fund (HUG A BEAR) in which she raises/collects money all year then gets a group to go build bears which she donates to the children inpatients at Children's Hospital.  She does this in memory of her sister (Raquel) who distributed art work to all patients while Raquel was a patient.   Isabella a Senior who will graduate this year end, has administrated this all four years of high school, she will distribute these Bears this Saturday on Valentine's Day.   We didn't confirm our invitation until we saw the weather in the morning.

30 -31 SOME BEARS
This fun time was followed by dinner at Olive Garden with David, Donna and a friend of theirs.  They were going to the movie to see American Sniper afterwards.

Sunday we were invited to a Baby Shower in Buffalo area so Betsy drove us there, through ice and snow.  The trees were beautiful ladened with ice and frost.

CLINTON STREET
ABOUT A MILE FROM OUR HOUSE.

AYLA WOJ.

The shower was for our friend's son's wife-Ayla Woj.
The restaurant was beautiful; it reminded Bob of Downton Abbey as we were in the Library Room.  For my out of towners; it used to be Daffodils Restaurant.  Sadly, the roof was leaking and they had pots on the floor to walk around.  Too much snow and ice maybe.

To make a book for the expected baby; a page was prepared for each letter of the alphabet.  We were to decorate the page with colored pencils and stickers that was provided.  Cute Idea.  I picked the letter "C" for Caroline-then I drew a motor home, tent, and pine trees.  I printed the saying"Camping we will go!"   You should have seen my disfigured motor home!  I tried to get all the colored stripes on the motor home body.  It was funny and it did encourage others to give it a try.

ONE WITH STICKERS

We had a buffet lunch with so much food and then a delicious cake with filling was served.  Yeah who, eat up Bobby so I don't have to make a meal once home.   Yes, Bob was invited to the shower.  He had heard some where that if men attend a shower they are to bring diapers.  He did.  Can anyone add to that?   Is that an old wives tale?  He took pictures for the family.  Lots of pictures!!!

Coming home the weather was worse!!! Traffic on the I90 slowed down and the road was full of slush.  But as we exited  and arrived at home the snow had turned to big flakes.  SUGAR SNOW!  For sure they will be hauling sap for Maple Syrup soon; once you see the big flakes.

ALREADY on the news!  Another blast for Genesee County!  Snow storm Marcus barreling down on us.   We have milk and I can bake bread so no worry.  I ordered a "jelly roll" to make another small quilt and it was delivered so hope I can make that up this coming week.

This is a big blog.  Guess you'll need more time to read it!!!  Hope everyone has a great week.
