Dog Days of Summer

LAST WEEK:
Last week, I just didn't get started with the Blog.   Ya, just can't make this stuff up folks!  We came home from the Ride For Roswell, and we had to unload and clean the motor home.  Then it was cool for three days.  That upset me!  It's summer time for gosh sake.

DOLPHIN
On Sunday, Bob picked up the new pool cleaner that we had on order.  The brand name is Dolphin, DX4.   It looks like a small tank!  It goes right up the sides of the pool.  That will  save Bob sweating away for hours to run the pool brush.   So far, Bob is pleased with it.

IT WILL MEMORIZE THE POOL DIMENSIONS

On Thursday, we loaded up the motor home again and left for Four Mile Creek State Park to join our Holiday Rambler friends dry camping (no water, electric or sewer) for the weekend.  Wouldn't you know, the weekend was hotter than blazes.  The rules limited the use of the generator: 9-11am and 5-9pm.  So we were miserable!

NICE QUITE CAMP GROUND UNTIL FRIDAY NIGHT WHEN THE FAMILIES WITH SOCCER PLAYERS ARRIVED.

Bob offered to cook the bacon outside on his Coleman stove because it makes such a mess inside. (We have mirrors around the stove top, isn't that stupid)  I asked him to put a sheet of paper towel between each layer of bacon.   I'm sitting at the table inside, cutting stuff up for our dip, and I smell the bacon burning!  I look out the window and the grease is bubbling like boiling water!  I yelled-"turn it down!"   Bob promptly told me that one burner is hotter than the other.  Well, "switch the skillets then."  Thinking that was under control I continued with the dip fixings.  Bob comes in with the bacon and tells me that he had one little problem; the paper towels caught on fire!  When I moved the bacon to refrigerate it, I saw that the meat plate was burned also.  Okay, Bob.

Only four camping units came.  Four people came for meals only.

BIRD NEST: MAYBE AN EAGLE'S NEST IN THE ALABAMA SWAMP AREA ON WAY HOME.  SOMEONE PUT A PLATFORM BOX UP FOR IT TO BUILD ON.

After lunch and unloading the motor home again, we started to help Betsy fix food for a family get together tomorrow night to celebrate Sarah's birthday.
MONDAY:
We had a nice evening.  Sarah was pleased with her party.  She is now 22 years old.

THE YOUNG ADULTS HAMMING IT UP AGAIN!

TUESDAY:

Up early with the lead bird.   Actually I had to call Bob early so he could take the motor home to the garage for an oil change, and inspection.  I turned on the computer after he left and did a few things.  Then Sarah was up so I visited with her a while.  I started emptying the dish washer and putting away the remaining party dishes.  Sarah was fixing a red, white and blue jello cake to take to the islands tomorrow when she joins her Dad's family.

After lunch, I put on my bathing suit and went out to the pool.  Bob joined me.  No sooner than getting wet and it clouded over...dark grey skies.  The temp started dropping too.  We need the rain so bad but it only sprinkled here.
No more sun, bummer.

WEDNESDAY:
July 4th!  Holiday, Holiday!  I made the most of it!  I slept till almost noon.  After having some toast, I put on my bathing suit and went out to the pool.  I cleaned the edge so it would stay pretty white.  I watered plants and read a book some.
We went out for a sandwich for supper and then did some shopping.   Our living room air conditioner had quit, but Bob checked the fuses and one had blown.  It started back up.  While out, Bob wanted me to look at a new model of air conditioner.   Bob was all gun ho for this new model on wheels...it sits on the floor and has a tube going out the window.  We wouldn't have to struggle lifting it to install in the window. Well, the unit is white and looks like a refrigerator and the tube going out the window looks like it belongs in a garage!  I guess you can tell that I'm not to keen on this idea.  But he brought one home anyway.  Okay, Bob.

We watched the fire works at the baseball stadium in our back yard.  The skitters were nasty.

THURSDAY:
I tried to type today and the Internet was goofy!  Nothing is going right.  So try again.  I was up early to shoot Bob off to the Ford garage.  He wanted to know if I wanted to go; "NO"  in this heat.  I stayed inside and cleaned the refrig as garbage would be picked up today (one day late) due to the holiday.  I can't remember the last time I cleaned the whole thing...maybe before Christmas.    I even disciplined myself to take the shelves off the door and scrub them.  Watch the darn thing will probably quit now.

I told Bob I didn't want that ugly air conditioner.   He had both of them running!  Wonder why fuses blow.
I spent the afternoon out by the pool.  90 degrees!  Ahe, the hot days of summer.  I love it!

I made pork chops for supper.  I happened to have 3 in the freezer and Betsy had other plans so that would be enough for us.

After kitchen clean up, we went out to the hot, hot garage.  We started to drill holes in some wine bottles that Bob found under the deck, which must have been pushed back from last time we made them.  Annalynn (and others now) wants to run in the LLS marathon in  San Francisco in October and they hope/want to donate $3200.00 each.   So we are doing  fund raisers again.  Any new ideas, give a holler!
I guess we finished up about 9:30pm.  I read a book before going to bed.

FRIDAY:

Bob packed up the ugly air conditioner!  Yeah!  He finally relented and said it wasn't big enough for the room; not enough BTU's or something.   We struggled getting it back down the stairs and into the truck for return.

We had to go over town anyway as I had a doctor's appointment.  The snake bites (red pimples) on my feet have developed into a big spreading, skin eating, pus, skin peeling mess!   In May they thought it was a fungus.  So more meds, and trying to get an appointment with a dermatologist.  Bob made a few returns of fans that didn't suit him.  We went to Sears to look at air conditioners.  It's so hot that our dog, Cinder, won't come outside until after 5-6:00 when the sun goes over.

On our return trip home, I noticed the farmers were starting to cut the wheat in the field behind us.  That's good, before the rain decides to come and smashes it all down.

I called some friends to go for spaghetti with us but couldn't get an answer.  As we walked in the restaurant; they were walking out.  Surprise!
The rest of the evening we putzed around, reading etc.

SATURDAY:
WOW!   I just got up to darkness.  9:30am.  What is going on?  The Aliens are coming!  The sky is dark all over.  There is one cloud that is like a sideways funnel, turning.  About twenty minutes later we had 32 mile per hour winds, and a 1/2 inch of rain.  Thunder & lighting.  The patio furniture blew across the deck.  We need rain but we need a steady rain for an hour or so.

After lunch, we decided to work on a few more wine bottles.  It wasn't to hot in the garage.  We want to get them out of the garage and not back into storage.  Drilling the holes in the back is the easy part.   Washing them and taking off the labels is another matter.  We should have 32 ready to take to the girls when we go to Lockport on Tuesday.

All ready for the girls to decorate.

ONE THAT FINISHED INCLUDING TWINKLE LIGHTS

SUNDAY:
Another beautiful day.  Not quite as humid today.  But we still have 2 air conditioners and 3 fans  running.  The pool was at 85 degrees today, what a God send..do some work, jump in the pool.  Bob added water to the pool today as a couple inches had vaporized-I guess.  We just putzed around all day.

TIRE FOR WHEELBARROW NEEDS FIXED

I have a couple orange/red cherry tomatoes on my plants on the pool deck.  I'm surprised.

Well that's our week.  The news tonight showed no rain for the next week.  The lawns are already brown.  I hope the news is wrong.  Thanks for clicking in, have a good week.
