SHERKSTON BEACHES, ON OUR 1979 BUNK BED WINNEBAGO WE FIRST WENT CAMPING THERE IN A TENT CAMPER BUT I COULDN'T FIND ANY PHOTOS. |
The beginnings of garage sale work. Haul that stuff out of shed, garage rafters, shelves etc.
THURSDAY:
Betsy took the day off work to help with the garage sale items.
She went up into the rafters of garage and handed boxes down to Bob. Dirty! Dusty! things. We figured out that some things have been up there for 22 years.
WE HAVE SO MUCH JUNK. |
Pricing is a guess, you know the value, but what will entice people to buy? Bob and Betsy piled stuff all around me and I just sat in one place pricing. All Day!
We worked until time to make supper. After supper, we all showered and collapsed. I watched the game shows and then checked the computer for messages.
By 9:30, I was headed for bed.
FRIDAY:
Up and at em! We wanted to go to Rochester and back quickly so we had more time to work on the garage sale items. So we drove in and went for the light treatment, picked up Iced coffee at DD then headed home.
It's amazing what you save if there is a space. We had sand shovels, rakes, buckets, sifters, minnow nets, trucks, army men, hot wheels and castle making forms which I bought when our kids were young. Of course, I kept adding to it for the grandchildren or if things broke. I had these all in two big rain barrel size buckets that took up a lot of room in the shed. Hay, we all enjoyed building castles when we went to Sherkston Beaches in Canada with the family.

Bob and I had brought the kids fishing many times. Fish during the day light and spend the evening untangling lines. The kids loved wadding into stream to see how far they could go before water went in their boots. It always did!
After supper, I still had plants to put in so we took time to set them. I changed where I had the bird bath as the coons or something was knocking off the water bowl.
Bob had gone to the bank for bills to make change, and was setting up the cash register. Yes, we still have the cash register used during our crafting sale days. Me, that has to be over 20-25 years old. It was a cheap-o but served our purposes. We could identify items sold, sales tax, cash, credit card, or check. Okay, so now Bob is reminding me as to the use of it, how do I ring up Betsy's items from ours, opps the paper tape wouldn't advance. Oh crud, now what? He putzed around and found a rubber washer type thing that had deteriorated. He tried putting a rubber band around the lead bar, no luck. It would still add and make the change which showed in the LED window but no tape. Rats! Punt tomorrow.
LED WINDOW IS NOT OPEN |
I was up around 5:30, excited to get the day over. The three of us headed out to the garage to put up the tables and unpack the boxes.
What a job! We finally settled on which table for what and set up the money box.
Customers were here at 7:00 am. Bob set up a pool umbrella for us to sit under as a hot day was predicted. We had good traffic all day, only once did I here horns beeping of driver's impatient wanting others to move along the street. Calling the police wasn't necessary. (It gets down to one lane with cars parked on both sides of street)
One neighbor was selling hot dogs and sausages so we had that treat for lunch. We all shopped around at other sales. I found some puzzles and 5 paper back books. It's always a long day, so side ventures help. About 2:30 pm traffic started to slow. I said, one more hour then we close. Sure enough, get stuff in boxes and another lot of people came by; too late! Left overs are going to the Veterans of America store down at the plaza near us.
Betsy went to a Fireman's Chicken BBQ and we came in the house to rest, mad that we forgot about the Belmont Stakes Race. It wasn't to late! We watched it and was very disappointed for all of America...California Chrome (CC) didn't win. The owner was interviewed and had a few choice words as to the unfairness of the race. Some horses haven't run in weeks (they were held out) where CC had raced the Derby and the Preakness. I wonder what he would have said if his horse won?
We went for ice cream, came home and went to bed. Gonk and I was gone.
SUNDAY:
Aha, relax. Not to be! Bob is out sealing the pool deck, he is following the shade. I've changed the bed and am washing the sheets. Guess we will wait to open the pool when we get back from Oklahoma trip. Why burn up the chemicals?
Looking ahead to this week, I have questions on how to pack for the Oklahoma trip. My adult kids have asked us to use carry on bags so we don't have to check or wait for luggage. (fly on Thursday, Friday events, fly home on Saturday ) Oh yeah?
One church dress for day time and one formal gown for the ball is needed. I can do it! Cosmetics and hair stuff have me concerned. But first I have to go to get "flight pills" as flying is just as bad as the bridges I hate to go over.
It's been fun sharing. Thanks for clicking in and hope you have a good week too.
