GOLDEN HILL STATE PARK CAMPING, AND CHERRY PICKING

MONDAY:
The wheels on the bus go round and round!  We are heading for Golden Hill State Park in Barker, N.Y., which is up on Lake Ontario.  We are meeting friends there.  We left home, went to college parking lot to hook up tow car, and was on the road by 10:10 am.  That's really good for us, seems we are slower now that we are retired.

Arriving at the check in office,  Bob asked for a site closer to our friends but one was not available.

RIGHT OUTSIDE OUR BEDROOM WINDOW
We set up camp and went to visit.  Bob J. has a new techie piece of equipment that he explained to us.  It's a WAN; that provides support to the camp ground Internet supply.  Shortly after, we went to pick cherries.  Nice, big, dark, fat, juicy ones!  Oh, so good.

BROWN'S HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING

Bonnie had containers but I didn't.  Inside she had her baskets weighed and I purchased two.  We headed out to the orchard.  We didn't find the dark cherries at first.  We continued on to the end of the rows and the trees were loaded.

HERE COMES BOB J. WITH CAMERAS
It didn't take long (maybe an hour) and our containers were full and so was our bellies!

BEAUTIFUL AND SO GOOD!

We headed into the store to pay.  The cherries were $3.99 a pound unless you picked over 20 lbs. and then it was $3.39 a pound.   We were way over!  Then Bob started with his discount questions - do you honor over 65, AAA, DUNKIN DONUTS?  Bob J. asked about a military discount.  I guess they threw out several other ideas too - doesn't hurt to ask.  We ended up paying $3.00 a pound.

We put the pickings in the car and went back in the store for an ice cream cone.  Later Bob J. drove us around another state park to look at campsites for a later date.  Very few with lake front viewing.

After supper, we went to their lake front site to watch the sunset.   Many people were out walking, then I noticed a couple that we knew.  They are members of the Rochester Chapter of Holiday Ramblers.  Come to find out, they are doing a work program called Caps, for the park.  They will be our tour guides when we go threw the light house.  They also water plants and miscellaneous other things.  Speaking of water, we had sprinkles!  The sky was turning black.  We were rained out!    I was anxious to make a pie with the cherries so I wasn't disappointed.  Bob watched some TV then went to bed.  I was still waiting on the pie to finish at 10 something.

I USED THE CONVECTION SETTING
IT BURNT THE CRUST.
Then off to bed.  Oh crap!  I still have the flannel sheets on the bed.  I must have forgotten to pull them off after last camp out.  And the long, drink of water, (Bob) is sprawled all over the top.

TUESDAY:
On camping mornings without a busy schedule, I like to make bacon and eggs.   After a shower, cleaning the kitchen and changing the sheets, we went to Jae's site.  Tours at the light house started at 2:00 p.m. and was on the property so we had a short walk.

THIS IS A YURT

On the camp ground there are two of these Yurts.  The flier says, their origins date back to ancient time when Nomadic central Asian tribes used them for shelters.  This one has a wood interior, ceiling fan, hardwood floors and a room to sleep six.  Fridge, Microwave, Dinette, two dressers.  A rental with all the comforts of home.

They also had a brand new shower building with a planned laundry area.  Federal or State funds must have been good!

THE LIGHTHOUSE

The light house building was two stories high.  The down stairs we could tour and it was a complete home set up.  Kitchen, dinning, living room, bedrooms, and bath.  The upstairs was an apartment with three bedrooms that anyone could rent by the week - over $1000.00.

After the tour, rain threatened again!  We went back to our camper and had our 4:00 coffee.  The pie was whispering to us-try me!  Ha!  We had to have a piece and it was  delicious.   I packed some up for our friends and Bob drove it over to them.  Then the rain came down in sheets. It's terrible when one needs boots to get the boots out of the camper bays.  It really was a bad down pour.

FLOODED
A couple hours later we went back to lake side to see the sunset.  Our friends (Diane & Gene)  from Rochester joined the four of us.

Once again, the black clouds rolled in and a chilly wind started blowing.  A perfect sunset was not to be had this camp out.

The Rochester couple had to lock up things at the light house so when they left, we all decided to call it quits for the evening.

WEDNESDAY:
We are checking out today and heading home.  While Bob went to the dump station, I went to visit with the Jae's.   I/we want to come back in August when the peaches are ready.  I left when Bob called that he was ready to hook up.   We checked the lights and made sure the wheels on the car were going around, then started out.  We had decided to take an easy, scenic ride, where ever Gypsy (our GPS) took us.  The Gypsy route brought us to the Alabama Swamp area so I suggested we have lunch at the Wild Life Viewing Area.  Sadly, we didn't have the binocs with us to look for the Eagles.  We needed propane so we drove to the Rez on the reservation.  Bob also bought diesel fuel.

USUALLY THE BEST PRICE AROUND
BOB DID FORGET TO CHECK THE GAS BUDDY APP

At home, the first thing I did was to make a k-cup of coffee!  Boy, my camper coffee is lousy.  After unloading, I drove over to Fredia's house to take a basket of cherries.  She was surprised.  She has brought us so many pies over the years; so good hearted.

Once supper was over, I watched the game shows.  Betsy had my computer in use.  Then I turned on the IPad to see if my two days of typing went on to Bob's Mac machine.  Nope!  I called for help.  Betsy said, that I didn't save it correctly.  I did, I did.  Well, she signed out before saving it again soooo... trauma!  Everything was gone.  They both tried every rescue they knew...nothing, gone!

THURSDAY:
We went threw the mail, some bills had come in, did the washing in between, and started retyping my Blog.  Bob called on orchards that allowed peach picking, he finally found one.  Several said peaches are too fragile to allow self pick.  He also ordered a camping magazine that was suggested by our friend Bob J.  I made another cherry pie and finish the cherries.

THIS TIME I USED A DEEP PIE DISH AND DIDN'T HAVE AS MUCH RUN OVER.

Bob loaded the photos from the camp out and I made a list of the ones I wanted.  Bob J. shared some nice ones with us..thank you.
The day flew!
I'm still reading the Inferno by Dan Brown.   The characters are on the run and there must be one hundred pages of that with detail of all the Italian buildings, secret tunnels and statues with long names.  An artisy person would love it!
FRIDAY:

Bob has gone to Home Depot to buy cement blocks as an animal dug under our fence already.  All that new dirt was pushed aside.

I spent the day on the computer.  I have the blog retyped now.

SATURDAY:

I was up real early (5:00 am) so I went out on the porch to look for the SUPERMOON as I couldn't see it for the clouds in the evening.  It stayed out from under the clouds for about twenty minutes.  It was big.  I snapped some pictures.

STILL SOME CLOUDS

The afternoon weather was beautiful, so nice and sunny.   I decided to ignore all the work and go sit at the pool, mostly because of the forecast for a cold spell.  I better enjoy it now.  I brought the paperback Inferno with me...trying to finish that.

Bob is tearing a small table top off a stand to replace it.  It's weather beaten.  He also has the small kids bench all sanded and varnished to put back together.  He stays in the shade of garage most of the time, but today he did take a nap under the gazebo .
Seeing as the camping plans were cancelled for the weekend, we made plans to go out for dinner with Joni and Scott from our camping Chapter.  They offered to drive to Batavia so we met them at   Alex's Restaurant.  It was very busy and we were told a twenty five minute wait.  The food was good, the company was great, and we were back home before dark.
SUNDAY:
Well, the weather change is here.  It's much cooler than yesterday.   I went out to do some weed pulling.  I hadn't worked to long and then sprinkles, then a down pour.  That's that for the day, to wet.

Opps, I hit publish instead of preview.   Oh well!  Guess I'm not awake yet.   Best I post this.

It's been a good week, maybe a little bit to much rain.  Thanks for reading.  Have a good week.
